Default How easily should the ACE pump spin?

I installed a replacement ACE pump about a month ago. Have only driven about 100 miles since then.
Last night I hear a whipping noise and suspect the new serpentine belt is coming apart. Sure enough, that's exactly what has happened.
I pulled the belt off tonight and extracted all the threads of it from behind all the pulleys. Spinning the pulleys by hand I find that the ACE pump takes some effort to rotate. It's not difficult, but it doesn't spin easily like the PAS or A/C pumps.
Can anybody give me an idea whether I should be expecting any resistance from this? I know that finding this out is a long shot.
