Why are you trying to remove the plastic lens? The only way I know to do it is to put the headlight assembly in an oven at about 150 degrees to heat up the sealant that holds it assembly together.

Yeah, might be tough to get just the lens off without cracking or busting it to smitherines....if you're doing the 03/04 conversion you'll need to replace the whole headlight assembly anyways since it's a different setup than pre-'03 models...but I'm sure you already knew that

I'm asking myself this same question because I did do the 03-04 conversion, but one of the used headlights was much dirtier inside than the other. The reflective area around the bulbs seem crystal clear on one, and slightly filmed over on the other. Has anyone successfully removed the front clear plastic cover from the headlamp assembly? Or taken the assembly apart enough to clean the inside? Thanks.

Are you sure it is on the inside? We get a lot of that here in Texas. The sun and dirt really effect the exterior of the plastic lens. You can take it to a Wal-Mart or another shop and they can use a cleaner/sander that makes them look brand new. I have done it twice on my wifes Hyundai Tucson. It lasts about a year or two before needing cleaned again. Mcquires makes a do it yourself kit. Have not tried it.

That is one of the reasons I don't want to switch to the 03 headlights. I like my glass just fine!

I'm certain. You can see a film on the inside of the plastic, and on the reflective material itself. I've already polished up the exterior to no avail.

Good news, the film on the inside turned out to be an accumulation of fine dust that had gathered over the years. I removed the bulbs and just by spraying compressed air in I was able to blast off the dust and cobwebs! Looks great now!

I did remove one once (trying to template out some custom lights with it) they have push points, but the sealant is the problem. tried to do it with razor knife and torch, cant really heat up the sealant too much. no luck with the knife, I finally gave up and dremeled the back off. if you want to seperate the two..... good luck. heat would make it a cinch..... if the front were glass. you can dig around in there with an exacto knife but you are going to have a canal to patch up, afterwords. it can be done ....but I look at it this way. if it takes enough time, that i could have bought new, spending that much time at my day job..............buy new.
and i like the location descriptive, you used.
