Default Idler Pulley Whine

Ok, so I just replaced my belt (2001 DII 142,000) and I yanked the 70mm idler to check for any damage. No visible damage so I tightened her down and cranked the engine. I have a noticeable whine and I can pin it to the 70mm idler just below the tensioner pulley.

I loosened the nut on the idler a bit to see if that would work but I still have the whine. Do I still have it too tight? There are no torque settings in RAVE for that particular Idler pulley. Has anyone here put a torque wrench to that pulley before and if so what setting did you use? If not, how tight is too tight and how would I know if it were too loose? I still think there might be a chance that I have it wrenched too tight. I just don't want the sucker coming off on me.

Thanks for any feedback.

I always put some blue lock tight on mine, just a thought.

replace the pulley. You have 142K.

Go to the parts house and ask for blue loctite. It is a pasty liquid that locks bolts into place that require a certain torque.

I would say 22NM (16Ft/lbs) would be good.

At your mileage both the idler pulleys as well as the tensioner pulley are usually fried and should be replaced. When reinstalling check the Rave for the proper torque.
