Default Key With Integrated Remote

How much should I expect to pay the dealer for a new 2 button remote key?

I went to the dealer to have my VIN# ran for any recall work needing to be done. Good thing, as they found the weak ABS valve caps had not been replaced. Anyway, while I was there I ordered a spare key/remote as my used '03 only has one key and I'd hate to find myself locked out without a spare when the battery dies.

They're going to give me the new key when I take it in for the recall repair on Tuesday, but they haven't charged me for it yet (they don't have my cc#). I never bothered to ask them how much the key would cost as I figured it wouldn't be much, but now I'm starting to wonder ifthey're going to charge mesomething silly.

Are they're any other sources for a spare key/remote besides the dealer?

Probably a couple hundred for the key. You may be able to find one on E-bay, but the dealer will still have to program it. Have to have a testbook capable scanner to do it. An indy rover shop wth the right tools may be able to do it....

I was in a similar situation when I got my Disco2 about a month ago. The dealership will charge $80-$100 to program the remote. All I really needed was a key blank (no remote part) to have with me when I go surfing. That will let you into the vehicle where you can get the key with remote.

The new non-programmed remote will usually cost you about $120 from a dealer. You can find the same one on E-Bay for sometimes as little as $50. Try and find an independent to program the remote, it can save you some money. As for recuting the key, any good lock smith can do that.
