hmm...because the hole on the left side is definitely easier to access, whereas the hole on the right side is way up in there and will be very interesting to get at with a torque wrench...

I know my neighbor and I were drinking heavily the whole time we replaced the engine in mine, but I am confident we accessed the bolts from the passenger side.

EDIT: I knew I wasn't having another false memory: Rave section 12-2-29 shows removing the access plugs and removing the 4 bolts securing torque converter to drive plate, and the passenger side of the engine is shown.

EDIT EDIT: I have been referring to passenger and driver's sides before I asked a crucial question - is this left or right hand drive? I accessed my bolts from the RIGHT hand side of the engine just below the starter.

Okay, so UPDATE:

I got a mechanic's stethoscope, and the sound is actually coming from the bell housing of the transmission (the ticking sound at idle). I am taking it to a transmission shop tomorrow afternoon, just to have them take a stab at the problem. I am having a hard time finding a day that i have time in the morning to fix it, while the engine is cold, so i will have them see if they can find the problem, and if it is less that $40, i will probably just pay them to do it. For the cost of my tools for an extension for my torque wrench, a 15/16th socket, and the hassle of burnt hands, i would rather simply have them spare me the hassle.

I hope it is just some loose bolts, but i will report back tomorrow night!

Yeah man keep us posted. The will have to drop the tranny maybe though to do a good inspection, so it might be more than 40 dollars. Better them than you though. Without a lift and proper tools, dropping a tranny is not fun at all....lol

No, you're wrong. The appointment was rescheduled until tomorrow at 4, but i called the dealer, and they said they would diagnose it, and if it was loose bolts, they would do it all, out the door, for $88.00.

It is maybe 10min of shop time, plus some locktite, so i don't think $40 is too outrageous. The dealer included their diagnosis charge in the total, and the shop i am taking it to is doing a free diagnosis.

If it is loose torque converter bolts, it will not require dropping the transmission.

The good news is, that with the mechanic's stethoscope, i have determined that all the noise is coming from the transmission bellhousing! That may mean the the transmission needs to be dropped, but at least it can't get too outrageously expensive in terms of parts, and hopefully i will be able to fix whatever it is myself (crosses-fingers)...
