Default My $500 Westminster

Pretty much dumb luck how I fell into this thing. A coworker of mine got a lead on a Rover that lost the brakes backing into a spot at work, smashing the tailgate. Knowing that I'm always wanting a new project, he thought of me first. Perfect timing as the day I showed up to look at it, the PO's HOA insisted the car be gone by the next day. After confirming it starts and didn't overheat, I offered $500, which the guy took. How she looked from the damage:

It's an '02 with 107k, 60k on a new motor. The first job was to get the brakes working, so a $30 master cylinder, fresh fluid and a bleed and she was stopping under her own (hydraulic) power. Next was to source a tailgate, where Craigslist revealed a relatively clean black one that I scored for $150:

I also picked up a hydraulic rear step, driver's mirror, and a couple of interior bits for a grand total of $265. I got her home and spent a couple of hours cleaning up the interior and conditioning the leather:

Next day off will be spent cutting, polishing and waxing the original exterior, then I'll begin the mods. All of the usual Overland stuff, including OME lift, rack and bumpers/winch. It'll be a light off roader/third driver but a project I'm really looking forward to.

Finally, my Jeep ZJ that's currently for sale to make room for the Disco, as I've always wanted a D2 but could never justify it:

Thanks for looking and I'm looking forward to tinkering and learning about my first Rover!

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!

Gave her a bath for the first time and she cleaned up pretty well:

Found a cheap eBay steel bumper that I'm going to try, anyone have any luck with this one:

Looks like I'm going with OME heavy front/medium rear for now as that seems to be the consensus around here for suspension if you're running a steel bumper and winch.

WOW, hell of a truck and find for $500!!!

Re: the bumper that's a Britpart (AKA $hitpart) DA5645 and they are not bad but the quality can be hit or miss. I've installed 3 and had trouble with one. If you ask me I wouldn't buy it off ebay for that reason. If there is a problem you want to get someone on the phone for a return. Try L8, great guys (& I saved you $2 ) > https://www.lucky8llc.com/products/d...eel-heavy-duty

You probably won't need it but the vid has some good tips. Good Luck with the truck (Not that you need it you lucky bastard )

Problem with Ebay it's very hit and miss, particularly with used kit and it's also overpriced for new or used. I now tend to go online and buy direct from vendors rather than Ebay for the same reasons.
