Default My Baby is Dead

Got the call from the Rover dealer: I need a new short-block.

She's going under a tarp now, and perhaps later in the year I'll do the block. Or, maybe by then the matter will be irrelevant.

She was a damn good Rover; In fact, she was my dream car. I will always treasure the year that I had with it. The stereo system that I sang along with, the grace with which it articulated corners, and the way the water beaded off it's impeccable finish.

Thank God for Rovers, and thank God I got to drive one.

Over & Out, my brothers.

Oh, I know Phil... It hit me hard a few minutes ago, but I'm better now. I don't care that I still owe some money on this one, or that I just put $2,100 into the engine. That Rover was my dream come true, and every time I looked at it, I smiled. It made my day just to be able to sit in it.

I feel like I knew that baby more intimately than I know most of my friends, and I am definitely very sorry to see it go.

They said it was a crack behind the number 7 sleeve.

That is to bad.
Park it next to your camper, dont bother with the tarp, it will just hold water onto the paint and scratch it when the wind blows.
Cars are meant to be outside, it wont hurt it at all.

Plus you can still sit in it and listen to the radio. That will inspire you to get that block sooner than later. In the mean time--we mourn your loss. You are among friends here. Feel free to look at the galleries of other brothers in Rovers living the life.

I think I'm just going to sell it for what I can, pay the loan off, and forget about it. We're moving to CO in May, and my motorcycle and Mandy's Disco will be enough.

Eventually, I'll be able to buy a new one.

How do you go about selling a Mint 2004 Rover with a ruined engine block?

Scratch that plan- I was just looking, and I'm seeing SE7 2004s with 60k miles going for $16k.

That is crazy! I owe $6k on mine, and I'm going to let a $4k engine do it in?

Naaaah. I can't do that.

I don't have the money now, but in April I will. One month and two weeks, and my beloved Land Rover will again grace the streets.

Can you have it welded? They do that to race aluminum blocks all the time, why not a Land Rover.

i am still very new to the LR world, but am puzzled by this.
it is 'normal' for an engine with this few miles to crack? seems crazy.
