Default Parking brake problem

My parking brake does not want lock in place when I pull it up.
The button at the tip stays depressed after I press it.
I have to jolt it at the side so the button can pop out and lock in place.
What can I do?

sounds like an adjustment is needed in the cable. over time they can stretch. i've had this problem with other vehicles, so i assume it can also happen with LR's

Inside the handbrake handle, the button controls a rod that engages / disengages a link that locks into teeth on a stationary bracket. There is a spring that pushes back the bulton, locking with the stationary toothed bracket. I am assuming that the spring is damaged or the mechanism is gummed up.

I figured it out!
The parking brake is slightly bent downwards (maybe someone stepped on it)
That's why the rod when it passes through metal tube gets stuck when I press the button.
Lots of WD-40 and a bit of elbow grease did it.
Small gratifications like that make my day. You don't get that from newer trucks.
Thanks.

Going to resurrect a (very) dead post here, but after replacing my parking brake cable I'm having the same issue.
There is a spring that pushes back the bulton, locking with the stationary toothed bracket. I am assuming that the spring is damaged or the mechanism is gummed up.
Can this spring be replaced, or do I essentially need a new handbrake lever? And, if so, what are my best sources for such an item other than the boneyard?

Holy wow old thread man......

I would just call Paul Grant he will get you one that is good and you will have no worries. Paul is not a salvage yard as much as he is a dismantler they take trucks apart and stock pile the parts we will need to keep the wheels turning. His stuff is stored inside.

Haha, yeah I know it's old. But it did turn up while researching my problem. After the holidays I'll probably call Paul Grant, as you suggested. Thanks for the help!
