Default Power steering Pump replacement

I am replacing the power steering pump, suction hose, reservoir and all the O-Rings tomorrow. I have 2 quarts of original land rover power steering fluid.

I have some questions:

1. I have cheap preston fluid in there now, obviously most is going to come out but some will stay in the steering gear, that fluid getting mixed with the new fluid, could that cause problems?

2. When filling the reservoir, will fluid go into the new hose attached to the pump or is there going to be a big air pocket getting sucked into the pump and can this cause damage to the pump

3. Will bleeding take care of the old fluid and also air, at the same time I don't want to over due it, since I have only 2 quarts of fluid

4. The new/old reservoid that I bought has some dirt in the filter, and I don't know how to clean it. Can some water throug the suction hose inlet cause any problems?

Thanks

There is a bleed screw on top of the steering box, release it and keep adding fluid until bubbles stop. Pan below of course. If yukky fluid is coming out keep going until output = input color. You may be able to get feed hose to pump attached to reservoir, then pour in some fluid before attaching feed line to pump, to fill the feed line, minimizes any bubble.

I have the same non-ACE bottle as you.

ACE-fitted models uses a double connection bottle. If you don't have ACE the container has the same shape but only one tube connection set.

I just wonder why there is a baffle inside on non-ACE models.

After you get the pump on and before you put the belt back on, you could probably prime it by hand. Add fluid and turn the pump and that should fill the pump with fluid if you are worried about damaging the pump on start up.
