Default Remote Start on Discovery

Looking for input about installing a remote start system on 97 Discovery LSE. Let me know if you have done this, any problems, recommended system, or just any possible problems to watch for. Thanks Tom

Why would you want to install one?

I would like a remote start because I enjoy having my vehicle already warm in the Colorado winter or cool in the summer. I have a system on my job and love it and would like one on my DI also.

I also live in Colorado and agree, BUT Rovers run so rich, you'll foul out your oil in half the time. It is reall hard on a Rover to sit and idle.
On our coldest day, my engine idles for less the 1/2 a minute, just long enough to get up tranny pressure and I am gone.

On Land Rover remote start installs, you have to actually sacrifice one of the dealer keys to make it work. No way around it. It actually gets physically wired to the ignition cylinder and then you cut the blade on the key. Other than that adding on a nice $180, the wiring is relatively straight forward compared to some other vehicles.

The 97 Discovery uses a dumb key so wiring the key to the ignition is not an issue.

The key is not a issue but the alarm is. You will have more gremlins that you will want to mess with. With a good thermostat these engines warm up really quick. Excessive idleing will not be an issue if your trk is well tuned. Mine idles for two hours a day with no ill effects.
