Well this morning I started my truck (like I usually do) in the morning to warm up a bit for the first 10 minutes before I take off to work. Started it and went back in the house.
10 minutes later I got out of the house and imediatelly I was smelling burned plastic. I opened the hood while the truck was running and noticed that the smell is coming from the SAI pump. I mean......it reaked like melted plastic. I unpluged the pump, let the truck run for another 10-15 minutes to make sure nothing cathes on fire or what not.
Truck ran good, I came to work without any problems.
Questions:
1. Has anyone experienced this before?
2. Can I take the pump out to try and find the problem, and still be able to drive the truck for a week or so until I figure out what happened? Maybe by-pass the plumbing if possible????
3. Since the pump is unplugged, can I still drive the truck and is it going to hurn anything? 4. What would you do if you were in my shoes?
Like usual, thanks for the replays!
Please let me know what you guys would do.
Thanks!
Boris

I'd unplug the pump take it out and inspect. No issue with driving without the pump, you will get a MIL but easily cleared with standard code reader. Pull the vacuum line off the round canister on the fender side in front of the pump so the valves won't open. Do the line on the side of the fender though so you won't have a vacuum leak. The SAI system is purely emissions and does nothing other than make the EPA happy so absolutely no damage or drivability issues to worry about. I hate SAI!!!!!!!

I agree with what they are saying, but do not agree with your letting the engine idle for 10 minutes just so you can be more comfortable, that is one of the worst things you can do to our overly rich running engines. Get in the truck, start it up, turn on the seat heater and go after 30 seconds of running which is all the tranny needs to run well.
