I am ready to place my order with Crower for the cam. Just trying to verify if the 230 needs machining of the valve guides or spring seats. I have read conflicting reports on dweb.

I ended up ordering the 53229, lifters and ZDD plus oil additive from Crower. Came to $326.02 using coupon code "10off"

even though you have the ZDD plus oil additive, use lots of assembly lube and break-in oil.

Heads dropped off at the machine shop this morning.

Just placed an order with Erik from Lucky8 for: (Great guy & pricing, I will be ordered from L8 again)
- Plenum Gasket
- Water Pump Gasket
- Front Cover Gasket
- Oil Pump gear set
- crank oil seal
- timing chain and gears
- oil pickup o-ring
- APR head stud kit
- Rad to expansion tank hose

I still need to look at my power steering pump. It started leaking when I moved it to the side, looks like its leaking form the rear gasket. I read another thread where someone else had a pump that only leaked when it was moved and stopped when it was put back in place. I may just buy the $29 gasket kit on eBay and replace the rear gasket. Another option is to pull the PS pump form my 99 parts DII.

Crower instructions
1 - assembly lube on lobes and lifters
2 - pour ZDDPlus over lobes and lifters
3 - fill crankcase w/ non detergent / racing 30 wt oil
4 - prime oil system

I will be using Valvoline VR1 30 wt oil. It has 1400 PPM of zinc and 1300 ppm of phosphate.

I will put the assembly lube on lobes, lifter feet, push rod ends, rocker arm tips and valve ends.

I was going to reuse my water pump, but there is a some movement in the bearings. I found what appears to be a Airtex Spain 1694. Its casting looks identical to the LR pump, but the part no. is W0133-1610251. Here is the same p/n shown with a brass impeller http://m.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/...3-1610251.html.
Amazon Warehouse had one with 1% cosmetic damage for $40. it should be delivered Thursday. Hopefully it will have a brass impeller.
They do have one more for sale with 10% cosmetic damage.

the real advantage to the airtex is not so much the bronze impeller that for some reason everyone thinks makes a difference somehow. but if i remember correctly it uses needle bearing rather than ball bearings.

If I remember correctly, and I could be wrong about this, their are two different grade Airtex water pumps for these trucks.

The premium grade would have the brass impeller and probably the needle bearings that drowssap mentioned above and the other would probably have neither. That's just a guess based on the big price difference.

The one in the amazon picture that you linked to looks like the good one.

Good deal...let us know how you make out with that.

Airtex Spain 1694 and the Airtex (US) AW9369. The 1694 is the LR pump.

A while ago I emailed Airtex and this is the response that I got "We produce this pump in Spain for LR Service and our Airtex Spain ref. is the 1694,"

The pump from Amazon should be delivered today. I will let you know which one it is.

I should have all the parts by Saturday. I still need to follow up with the shop to see if my heads will be complete. My Lucky 8 order should be delivered tomorrow and my Crower order on Saturday.

The weather isn't looking too good, 30-40% chance of rain all weekend. As least I have a 10x10 canopy tent over the front of the DII.

<p>The water pump was delivered today. It is the Airtex Spain 1694. It even has a STC4378 sticker on the box. It was a return, it had the original purchasers paperwork in it. He returned it because the box had no packing in it and the pump poked holes in the box damaging the pump. There were no holes through the box and I couldn't find any damage on the pump.</p>
