Default Torque Converter Access Plug

So I'm missing the access plugs that cover the torque converter (see first pic #30).

My question is, how can I get all the crud out of there? Been in quite a bit of mud, snow, dust lately and think I need to clean it out. Can I open up the hole in pic #2 without loosing all my tranny fluid? I'm suspecting no.

Secondly, does anyone know where to order some replacement plugs? Otherwise I'll just cover with duct tape.

Thanks

Yes, you can take that cover off. It is an inspection cover and there should be no fluid in the bell housing.

As for those plugs. Here you go. Oil Pan Grommet (Rear) (Genuine Part # ) - Land Rover gaskets and seals from Atlantic British

Thanks Jared...
I get there should be nothing in there, but how to do I clean it out, as it has been exposed to everything from dirt, dust, mud, snow (all 4 of those in the last 3 weeks).

Wow... damn.. $6 for a piece of rubber, i might just go the duct tape route.

I would take off that bottom inspection cover first and visually see how bad it looks up in there. If it looks really bad then you could always take a hose and spray water in where those rubber plugs go. Water has been getting in there the whole time anyway so I don't think it would hurt anything. You could always spray it out with air afterwards to help dry it out.

Is that indeed an inspection plate or will all my fluid drain out?

I'm 95% sure that is an inspection hole cover to look at the flywheel. We are talking about the circle cover with 3 small bolts, right? Give me a few minutes to confirm this.

I believe so as well, there is no gasket for that cover. The only way your going to loose fluid is if you drop the pan or disconnect a line.

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional mechanic but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Sorry I was wrong, there is a gasket there. So know I'm not as sure as I was.

I'll go pull mine off right now and let you know what happens. I'm pretty sure that those 2 rubber plugs and the gasket on the inspection cover are to help keep stuff out of the bell housing in fluid in.
