It appears that there is an advance and retard mechanism on the distro. If that's the case don't worry about hooking up the retard mech unless you have emissions testing. In either case, follow my instructions above to find the correct vacuum port and you are good to hook.

is your vac hooked up?
mine has a line from the port on the outside of the vac adv to the port on top of the throttle body.

That picture is actually my Rover (my flickr account). That hose was wrong. i have put some notes on the picture to show how the hose is supposed to go.
Also you can see this thread at Landroversonly.com for more information.
Nothing is supposed to be on the back port. The line runs from the front port to the top port on the manifold.

Sorry, I should have explained that I found it through the yahoo image search. If there is only one line on your diagram then you only need one to pass emissions.

That's just one source, I'm sure you could probably pick one up anywhere.
Again, ensure that the port on the throttle body does not produce vacuum until the throttle is opened. The hose should attach to the port on the advance that pulls, not pushes the advance arm. Test it by removing the cap and sucking on the hose and you should see it move freely. Hold vacuum to make sure it isn't leaking.
BTW, I don't have a Di, I'm just trying to help you out

Same issue I believe...
The whistling or "tea kettle noise" as I have heard it explained can be heard near firewall on drivers side of engine compartment. Downloaded rave manual which has been amazingly helpful however has been difficult using to identify noise.
I have read in early threads that it is something that electrical tape can "cure"..you guys are a great help. Any further guidance is appreciated
