Vin Number indicate options?

Vin Number indicate options?
Is there a source to check the original options on a Discovery using the VIN? If so, what is the method? I am now looking at a 2001 Discovery light on options but the price is good, only 75k miles, dealer maintained, new brakes, recent 60 mile service, everything works, only needs the drive shaft upgrade. No sunroofs, now ACE, 16 inch rims vs. 18 inchers. Thanks Phil

so I checked out the discovery. Overall it is in pretty good shape. It does have some paint issues, it is fading on the hood, looks like the clear coat is going. It also has some clear coat peeling on the edge of the roof above the windshield. It also has a cracked windshield. Inside it looks good, vinyl, not leather, sagging headliner, surprise.....some wax on the back of the rear seats from surfboards. It looks like it just had a tuneup and brakes. Black magnacor wires, fluids topped off, clean oil and clean air filter. Rotors looked like they were put on yesterday. New LTX Michelins on the front, 50% Michelins on the rear, crossterrains as I recall. Brand new goodyear spare. Transfer case worked without a hitch. Cruise, AC, radio and all other electronics worked. Only thing it appears to need is an upgraded front drive shaft. Surprisingly dry under the truck. Priced very competively. Should I hold out for a better equipped model ie leather sunroofs, ACE, upgraded stereo, fog lights, etc. or should I go with a great price on a truck that needs a little detailing but looks to be in tip top mechanical shape.......ideas...thanks phil

Got an email from the first owner last night. Not confirmed yet, but according to him, the truck developed a head gasket problem at 38k miles. Under warranty, the dealer Land Rover Mira Mar replaced the block as part of the fix. Sounds a little odd to me. If it was just a head gasket, why not just change the head gasket.....Anyway, he supposedly sent all records to the current owner, time will tell. He is looking for more than $2000 but the price is not out sight. Mechanically the truck is appealing, options wise, I sure wish it was a bit more upgraded. Phil
