Default Face of the new Discovery/ LR5

I'll reserve my full judgement when the car is revealed in full in Paris, but thus far...

No surprise here. Land Rover died years ago. Ford Explorer = Discovery = Ford Explorer.

Looks will continue to modernize as they go more 'mass market appeal'

Questions from me are
1) how will it perform. Is it still a real Land Rover. Folks don't necessarily like the looks of the RR Sport but it can ride well off road

2) have they managed to put it on a diet? I love my LR4 but 3 tons of metal eats brakes, tyres, bushings at an amazing rate - not to mention its thirst...

Any idea on potential launch dates to the US market? Is this nearly there or another 1-2 years to go?

Looking forward to learning more

That's disappointing.... hoping they would stick with a recognizable truck look. The reason I love my LR3/4 is the slab sided, practical Teutonic look about it.

Ah well, there will be plenty of 3/4's available...

Enthusiast forums. Where people moan about new models and drive 10-15 year old models..

Land Rover knows what they are doing whether you like it or not.

By the time any of us would consider buying one of those and hitting the trails with it the LR4's will be a dime a dozen and we'll be sitting pretty. From an engineering standpoint I bet it's just as good if not better on the trail.

Looks grow on you I remember thinking the LR3 was a weird looking box without much in the way of styling but it grows on you.

I don't care about looks as much as the engineering of it and how it preforms off road.

Have they gone wrong in the past decade?

Disco 2 was an upgrade to the disco 1 but a couple ***** were dropped in reliability.

LR3 is an upgrade to the disco 2 in most every way. I'm not talking about how we might view it as a "rig" but in terms of engineering its better.

LR4 is better than the LR3. It's a modest improvment and one could even call it a facelift/engine upgrade model but the electronics that the platform so depends on are better than the LR4. IE more reactive traction control, better compressor, etc.

The LR5 or whatever they call it will be an improvement and IMO probably a much larger improvement vs the LR3/LR4 upgrade. I think we'd all agree with the past 4 models being done in "2's" with the starting model and then being improved upon like Disco 1/2 and LR3/LR4.. If thats the case i'm pretty excited about the Discovery 5.
