Redoing a bad head job!
Purchased a 03 discovery about 3 or so months ago. Previous owner had head gaskets done. Heads looked clean. I find out later that head gaskets are still leaking! Upon tear down we find many missing bolts, removing heads we even find incorrect size bolts for heads. Upon install of new gaskets and heads, we find the head bolts just spinning threads are shot in the block! We then had to heli coil all the bolt holes.
I had been looking on here and have not found any info of this happening to anyone. I did get it all back together and no leaks! If anyone has come across this problem please let me know. If not for all the others going to do the head gaskets and the bolts are cross threaded heli coil is the solution.
I do know that Cadillac had this problem in one of there all aluminum motors and the manufactures directions was to heli coil all the head bolts.
Just putting this out there so you don't end up thinking that you need a new block or that you need to send out block to repair.
Thanks to all of you who have posted on here it has been a great help.
