Default Discovery II Four wheel question

I may have nothing wrong. On ice, low range, 1999 Discovery II, sudden acceleration will spin the front and rear wheels. Same situation, in High range only the front spin. Shouldn't the rear try also? Sudden braking on ice slides the wheels without the ABS shudder I am used to with other vehicles. Does this sound normal for the Rover?

The high to low range selector was stuck in high but it seemed to be just never used. Once I got it to work, it is improving each time. Will clean and lube and sure to improve. Did not change the wheel spin situation.

I am new to Rovers but not uncomfortable with repairs. Did the head gaskets, found the hose vent issue already.
