Default 2002 freelander won't start

I have a 2002 freelander that occationally won't start when engine is hot. The service engine soon light comes on. After it cools down it starts right up. I have been told its either the crank shaft sensor or the cam shaft sensor. Does any one have any ideas? I don't want to bring it to the shop and have them just replacing part after part.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you had any luck with this. I have a 2003 that is doing the EXACT same thing. I share the car with my 18 yr old daughter and am really concerned that she's going to get stranded. Any help would be appreciated. Do you know the code that's making the check engine light come on?
