Default 2004 freelander LN 2.5L v-6 mech. timing.

04 freelander LN 2.5L v-6; timing disturbed (hey I didnt do it I swear!!); crank in "safe" position; cams set and locked correctly; manual says next step is to insert flexplate ( they call it something else, but we all know what it is) locking pin, however, the holes dont align. at this point am supposed to rotate the crank so i CAN install the pin prior to timing belt install?? as it is now, timing CLEARLY not right, when cranking engine, air blows OUT of intake!!! HELP i think the manual makes assumptions that the reader is a factory tech.

There is a freelander section, that might get you better results. Most of us in the Disco forums wouldn't touch a freelander with a ten foot pole. ;-)

good luck!

actually you should have no interference with the valves when you hand crank it over.
if you start it up with the timing wrong the valves bend and thats goes the motor.

take the spark plugs out, then the air will escape there.
