Default to buy or not to buy

Looking into possibly buying a freelander for my wife but I am reading a lot horror of stories about these things.

Is there a reason why so many of them I found have a new engine?
I hear a lot of complaints about headgaskets can this be fixed with better gaskets?
Any pros and cons would be greatly appreciated I myself am a discovery owner with over 200,00 miles on it my problems have been minimal I fully believe I will get over 300,000 out of it..

Nothing was improved. The same garbage was thrown into it. All four speakers blow out, all five windows are known to go and they are really expensive. The latches stop working. The transmissions are junk, the engines are junk, no headgaskets won't do squat as the the sleaves slip and the heads pit and cause coolant loss. The cv joints go bad, the suspension goes out.

Trust me, we in LR up to the corporate level was happy when the last one went out of warrantee.

Wow...Am I glad I read this thread. I just totaled my Blazer and have been talking with a dealership about an 01 FL. Looks to be in great shape, but I think I'll pass.

You will be better off doing that. I am passionate about Land Rovers, but every time I see a Freelander on the roads, I think how much money the driver has or will have to invest into repairs.
