Default Engine Knock/ click noise

Hello Freelander owners,
I have a 2003 freelander with approximately 87K. When I start in the morning, I hear a “knock/ click” noise (you name it) coming from the top part of engine. The noise is greater when the car is cold, then it either disappears or gets less (I cant really say because I turn the radio on to not hear it). About twice the service engine soon light came on. I took to auto-zone, and had the computer to read. It came with the code: P0303. I researched, and I believe it is a misfire in one of the cylinders. In being optimistic, I hope it is just the spark plugs, and wire set. I am planning on replacing them. Before I do, I wanted your feedback if you experienced something similar to it. And, if you did, what was the outcome? Is it worth fixing?

Additional Info: I changed the oil w Castrol Synthetic 5w50, and use regular gas. I reside in Texas.

Also, In researching the wire set and spark plug, which one is the best option/ brand? Finally, why they sell both 3 only wires if the vehicle is a 6 cylinder? Should I buy 3 wires only or 6?

Thank you for your help, and appreciate your inputs.

Leo

The intake plenums go bad on those and make a hell of allot of noise. When they do however there are no fault codes. Ive had lifters go bad on FL and cause the noise and the misfire faults. Cly 3 ( P0303 is misfire cyl 3) im pretty sure is on the front head. Put your ear to the handle of a screw driver when the eng is noisy try to see if its coming from the head or the intake plenum.
