Default Engine is a mess

I have a loal dealer that did a repair on my Freelander trying to give me a story about why my engine is ruined. They worked on my engine due to leaking oil and found the cam seal leaking. They replaced the front and rear cam seal but lateradmitted thedid not adjust the timing belts. They are now trying to tell me the engine had an exhaut lifter missing and that is the reason the engine needs to be rplaced. I need some help with this situation.

no, lifters don't go missing.

but if the seal blew out I bet ten bucks the rings were bad and blew the seals.

Did they replace the cam seals or the big caps?

Besides they are responsible if they chose not to adjust the timing.
