Default Freelander Tranny Issue

I bought a 2002 Freelander with a JF506E auto trans in it that giving me problems and am wondering if anybody can help with a cure. I will pull the tranny if I have to but would rather not.
If you put it in 1st it will not move. It's in gear but acts like its still in park. If I put it in drive and start driving very slow it will all of sudden act like someone hammered the brakes and stop. Then it will release and do it over again. All other gears work as they should. If I put it in second it opperates fine and also fine in 3rd and revrse.
Just wondering if anybody has had the same problem and the cure.
Thanks so very much for your help.

Since your freelander already lost its trans, your going to need a little help from another vehicle. align your truck with the closest cliff/pier, put your freelander in gear, and use the other car to push the freelander up to exactly 88 MPH, If the flux capacitor fails to send the truck back to 1955, It will go off the cliff and hopefully burst into flames. Either way your trans problem is solved. P.S. If you use another freelander to push yours, you can earn a combo bonus/unlock the "kill 2 birds" achievement.
