Exclamation Gimme a break!!!

I was told by my co workers that my drivers side brake light was out. I changed out the bulb on the body cluster and no light still, checked the fuse and it was good as well. After looking into the manual I noticed that that portion is not considered a brake light light? Is this correct, is it only for marker/fog purposes as it says in the manual and the bumper mounted lights are the only brake lights? Also I recall there being some kind of TSB or recall on the brake lights or something?
