Default Sunroof motor

My 2004 freelander sunroof motor is very sluggish. But works fine to tip the glass, but very sluggish when moving the whole glass back. I'm afraid it wont return.

1. Is the problem likely the motor, or is there something else that might be resisting?
2. If the motor, where can I get one?
3. Does anyone have instructions for replacing the motor? Need to take off the headline?

Thanks.

usually its not the motor, or at least the motor. most common failure on those sunroofs is the guides, the part that the glass slides on, these get warpped and cause it to bind as it moves backwards. headliner and sunroof need to come out to replace them

Unplug the fuse its not worth the money to fix as new guides from the stealership will be over 400 bucks for a new regulator

OK, thanks. I'll just use the moonroof which works fine. But if I use the sunroof and the motor gets stuck, is there a manual way to return the glass and close the roof?

there is a manual way to close it, however this is only useful when it is unable to close itself, ie the motor doesnt work. if the motor is functional but it wont close, its because its jammed, and you will not be able to override it without breaking it. use it very sparingly until its fixed.

Default Replaced Sunroof motor

The sunroof on my 2004 Discovery stopped working. First pounded it because in the South, it sometimes get hot and sticks. Didn't work this time. Removed panel and hooked back roof switch to front but didn't work. That left either ECU or motor. I picked the motor because the back sunroof worked and I don't use the back as much as the front. Called dealer -- wanted $495 for new motor! Went online found a '99 Discovery motor for $49. Plugged it in -- it worked. Beat the dealership system again.
