Default urget not starting issues

My little brother has a 2002 freelander DSE (i believe) Im not to familiar with these but about a month ago he went to start it and it just clicked 3 or 4 times and then finally started. now it will do nothing but click. With every click the engine does turn just a hair. We have replaced the battery thinking that was the issue. I'm wondering if it could be the starter itself or maybe the solinoid (sp?) Locations of these components would be greatly appreciated or any other options we have to test to try and fix it. thanks guys for the help. we're trying to get it fixed by this weekend because he needs it by monday. thanks again

its the starter. its up above the engine. underneath the battery box and some hoses. Not easy to get to though.

Default Help my 2003 Freelander doesn't always start

How do you know it's the starter and not another issue. I have a 2003 that won't start some of the time when it's hot. My 18 yr old daughter and I share the car and I'm so scared she's going to get stranded. We live in Skaneateles NY where there is no one for 100 miles who will work on them, so I wanted an idea before I take the trip to the shop and so I'm more educated when I get there. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Thats a completely different situation. When you start, do you mean it won't turn over. I suspect the issue is either the cam sensor or the ignition circuit. The best way to find out is the heat the car off shut it down and duplicate the problem. If it doesnt turn over then take out the cam sensor and spray it down with brake clean to cool it down quickly. if it starts up then its the cam sensor. Also the MAF sensor has the same effect. if the cam sensor isn't the problem then spray down the maf sensor.

I tried the cam sensor and that wasn't the problem, so now I need to try the maf sensor, but I don't know where it is, nor the crankshaft sensor (and my CD was no help). Could you please provide some additional details? THANKS!!

Both vehicles questioned here try to hold the key in the crank position for a good 15-20 seconds when the vehicle wont start. Im assuming its not cranking?? if you hold it in the crank position and it starts you need a ignition switch. Fairly common on the earlier FL. Its located on the steering column.

Default The problem does not start

To fix this problem, click Restart Computer to restart your computer. If that doesn't work copy all the setup files onto your local hard disk, and run setup from there.
