Hi All - New LR3 owner. Got a '06 LR3 V8 about five months ago with just 28k miles on it and now have 34k. It's been running great with two exceptions.
The first is a high pitched whirring noise I've noticed when accelerating from a stop or going up a hill from a stop. The sound is always most notable at about 2250 rpm, or when the car is "pulling" up to speed. The noise always dissapates once you are up to speed. Can't say that it's coming from one side or another, and I wouldn't say it has anything to do with steering. I don't notice it any other time but while accelerating, but it just doesn't sound right. Any thoughts?
Also, I do get the little lurch that others have mentioned when accelerating out of a "california stop". Almost like the car isn't shifting down fast enough. If I come to a full stop it doesnt' happen.
As for the incomplete stop thing, the transmission is not sure what gear to be in, it is trying to figure out if you are going to stop or not so it is stuck in the higher gear and then "hunts" for the correct gear.
As for the noise, have you checked or changed all the drive line fluids?
There was a guy on here not long ago with a LR3 with a similar noise and it was his front diff going out, $3500 for a new one.
Apparently the fluid had never been changed in it and the bearings went out because of worn out gear lube.
I'm not saying that is your problem, I'm just saying check the gear oil condition on both diffs and the t-case.
