Hello out there, my wifes 2008 LR2 is acting up. This morning it took 5 attempts to start. It would start and then die shortly after. Tried giving it gas after starting but it just bogged out. After the 5th attempt it started and ran fine all day. I experienced the same problem about 3 months ago but it ran after 2 attempts. My buddy told me it could be a fuel filter or the throtle body stuck. I live in Canada and I am 6hrs from the nearest Land Rover dealer. The LR2 is kept in a warm garage and has 45000 Miles. Can anyone help me out?
Filter is inside pump assembly, not likely. Pump, maybe. But more likely Crank Position Sensor, a $65 (US) item. If DIY, be sure to install in bolts-spacer-sensor-block order. Several recent posts on failure of this item. Failure may or may not leave codes - any CEL on?
crank sensor does not make codes under some failures, most other things do. Bad crank sensor will make no sparks from plugs, you can back out one plug, or simply put a new ($2) plug in one of the existing plug wires and let it lay against manifold. Won't see sparks if crank sensor has stopped working 100%.
software update relating to temp sensor. need to take it to the dealer or a suitable shop to update the instrument pack software and engine control software
