Default engine revs/lunges during drive

Hey fellow Rover's, for the past 2 weeks now my 04 RR is running a little funny. Doesnt matter if its warmed up good or not but as I'm driving down the road I can feel it lunging and the rpms reflect it as well. Though its only a little bit so far I dont want it to get worse. No engine light yet either. Anyone with a hint on what could cause this? I'm thinking maybe plugs or air cleaner????

How many miles on it? Have you checked your tranny fluid level?

I have seen this happen the transmission fluid gets old and needs to be replaced. All of it. not the pan. Fixed several this way. bg transmission service. Its this or put a transmission in it. Sometimes when the vehicle starts to lunge and has high revs its too late but sometimes it does fix it.

consider it expensive diagnosis but its that or five grand.

BG find a shop.com

There are a few places within 25 miles of you but alot more within thirty miles in Knoxville.

Take care of this immediately. Or else it could be really bad. The fluid needed is the artificial bg service. should run between 300 and 450 depending on the shop and the time. The LR dealer may have the service but I can find a LR shop on the list. You can call them and get a quote for the service.

I called the RR dealer and asked about the transmission and the service mgr. said it wasnt the tranny that it only needed serviced if I had 150,000 miles or 10 years old. He said it was a firmware update to the computer which in my opinion makes no sense cause it was fine 2 weeks ago, what has changed? By the way its an 05 (not 04 sorry) RR with 93,000 miles. And its not really a lunge but rather a drop in power and rpms but its quick so it sorta felt like a lunge. It only does it with mild acceleration and only during the 30 - 50 mph range, otherwise it runs perfect. Hope this helps with your excellent advice. Thank you for the excellent advice rovin4life and disco4life, expensive vehicle and I want to keep her going.

So take it to the stealer, get the firmware update and when that does not fix the problem have the trans fluid flushed.
All of this "lubed for life" and "long life" fluids are a load of crap, that is just another way for the car manufactures to lower their CAFE fines, the less often a fluid needs to be changed the less pollution which means lower fines.
Things last until out of warranty and then its all on the owner, they do not care about repeat customers.

x2 on Spike's and Rovin4life's recommendations. BG Findashop - Search for an authorized BG service center near you!

The shop I used to work at was a BG shop. I cannot remember how many transmission problems were solved with a proper flush. Lifetime transmission fluid in a vehicle? Nonsense! I really wish I could have mentally recorded the information presented in the seminars I attended.

If a local shop does not have the correct adapters for your vehicle, let me know. I am still on good terms with our local BG rep, even though I no longer am able to sell their products, and I'm sure a few phone calls could take care of adapter problems.

My dealer said it was the EGR valves that were faulty. That 'fix' did not work. $1200
Then he said the Front diff was locking up. That 'fix' did not work. $1700
Then he said that the transmission need flushing, fluid replaced at $100 per litre (10 litres) and new filter. $2000 quoted for simple replacement - or >$5000 for transmission replacement.
Has anyone got any ideas for a real fix?

Yes, STOP TAKING IT TO THE DEALER!!!!!
Find a independent shop and have them replace the trans fluid.

the updates are for the 06+ to 09 RR. not the BMW RR.

Double check the list I showed you and check the places that service it. Main dealers that do the service can be trusted.

If they need to know how to check the fluid they will notice the plug on the side to fill it up.

when they open up the plug when its running if nothing comes out it needs fluid. once it drains out then its filled.
