Question horrible noise…

i have added a link to youtube so you can hear the noise…this is at an idle…when i would drive it, had a loss in power and almost sounded like a valve was slapping a piston idk whats going on with it. this noise i have captured seems to be on the passenger side, top end of the motor (head)? idk if anyone has any idea's i'd love to hear them! its a 97 Disco 1 with the 4.0 in it. also i have been reading about the sleeves slipping? idk I'm at a loss for words…

ok so when I'm driving down the freeway and every things going fine then all of a sudden it starts sounding almost like a valve is slapping a piston? idk today i left her running while i ran into the gas station and she blew a lower radiator hose…gonna have to ebay it or something because none of the local parts stores actually carry it…even the dealership said they have to order it in..kinda dumb…its a hose.. and theres actually quite a lot of them here in idaho…i see them everywhere lol

IMO overheated due to either hose blown or HG. The HG appears blown and the tapping may be a slipped liner. IMO it doesn't sound like a happy engine right now and needs sorting out PDQ before any serious damage is done.

yes. 4.0 is the exact same block and pressed in liners as the 4.6
head gasket can poop out more than one way. oil/water/combustion gases.
you can get a mixture or a leak, either internal or simply external.
gas escape and water escape are fairly common external hg failures

3 options
A. have flanged (top hat) liners installed (done deal)
B. diy pin the liners in place (doesn't always work)
C. replace engine and hope it doesn't happen to the replacement (trash option)

Depends, you need someone like Dusty or similar with experience to analyse the engine. It's possible to peg the liners or pay big bucks for top hat conversions. Rover Master Tech has plug welded the liners in place. It's not really something anyone can analyse online without seeing the engine. Good luck.
