Default Key Ignition Problem have tried this please help

Hey you guys, I really need help.

I am having the aforementioned problem.

Firstly, I took the cap off the gearshift to attempt to tighten bolt, though I did not see one

And then I took off the steering column in attempt to remove ignition solenoid, but I do not have a right angle screw driver.

I really need to get to work tomorrow and any help is monsterly appreciated.

If you're looking to tighten the 3/4" nut on the shifter you need to remove the clip on top in your photo. Then pull out the plunger for changing gears. Then you will see the nut. It's usually only finger tight anyway. Get a deep socket and you should be set with tightening that nut.

I don't see how removing or tightening this nut is going to solve your problem if it's the same problem the guy had in the video. Am I missing something?

Thank you for your response.

Well there are multiple reasons why the key might not release from the ignition. According to a member of this forum, 98% likelihood on older discovery models is that the gearshift is not registering park. The remedy is to remove the top of the shifter and then tighten a bolt per photo one.

If this options fails, then the video is basically the work-around for disengaging the ignition lock all together; thusly the key can be removed from ignition cylinder in any gear.

Tomorrow I will try pulling the plunger up and then looking for the bolt.. You wouldn't happen to have a picture would you? I have scoured the internets.

Thank you.

When the shift linkage gets out of adjustment even though the gear shift is in park it may not be enough in park to let the key be released from the ignition.
Tightening the nut inside the gear shift knob may remedy this problem, it is a easy and free place to start.
