Default Steering Knock

I have a 94 v8i discovery and its making a knocking noise but only when I turn i can also feel it in the steering wheel while turning and looking out the window as I turn the wheels move side to side a little does any one have any idea what the causes might be and how I might be able to repair it. Thanks

Jack up wheels and wiggle top to bottom, and left to right. Movement indicates bearings problems. If you can feel it and notice it visually, you are close to failure, would be a good idea to drive something else. # 11 and #13 in attached drawing. Could also involve the swivel (CV ) joints, but they normally make a "popping" sound as part of the problem, even when straight.

Thanks for that I think that was quite helpful I jacked up the wheels and there was no movement so Im guessing that leaves the cv joints unless theres something else in there that can cause that kind of knock.

Check your front suspension bolts and tighten.
The panhard rod goes from the frame to the front axle ( 2 bolts)
And radius arms (2) cradle the front axle (4bolts). Sometimes you can see rust around the loosely bolted area.
Check your track rod and drag link ball joints for play.
Grab the front sway bar a wiggle it (up down and side to side), you'll know if the bushings are worn.
Once you have the wheels turned left or right you will notice there is more
backlash in the stering box therefore when wiggling the steering wheel in the
turned position (left or right) you will feel more play in the steering wheel.

Also check your ball joints, especially the lower ones.
Let us know what you find.

Loose/broken shock mounts can knock too.
