Default Cost of Service Maintenance

Hi Everyone,

I am due for my 15K mi scheduled maintanence. The cost at the dealership is $525; is this over-priced
What is the average cost for 15k service on 2010 LR2 in the Dallas area
The dealership claim any maintanence service done on a LR, excluding the oil change, will void my LR warranty if the work is not performed at a dealership service center; is this true

I am not familiar with the newer Rovers, but Rover used to pay for the required services up to 40,000 miles, don't they do that any more?
Also, you can can your services done by any qualified Rover shop as long as they follow Rovers recommended inspections and services and you receive a printed copy of a work order stating the shop's name, date, work order number and listing out all that was done. The only thing I always recommend people to do is make sure whoever works on your vehicle uses Rover parts only.

Hi Disco Mike,
Thanks for your input, but can I get more advice?
We have a few non-dealership Rover shops in Dallas; they claim they can properly work on my LR2 and document the servicing in writing. However, LR Corporate (that I contacted) has verbally informed me that I have to goto the dealerships for any type of service, including oil change; otherwise I will void my warranty. In Dallas, Land Rover dealerships are owned by the same group who charges around $175 for an oil change (synthetic blend only) and $500 for a 15k service maintanence, where as non-dealership Rover shops charges around $100 for the oil change (but with higher grade full synthetic) and $255 for the 15k service. Furthermore, when I called a dealership in the next city (400 miles away) that is not owned by the same group, their pricing was only $20 to $50 more than the non-dealership Rover shops.
Corporate informed me that they have no control over unusual dealership pricing. Hmm, I smell something fishy and unethical
When I ask Corporate to give me their statements in writing, they refused by stating it is not Land Rover policy to put verbal statements in writing. Do you have any advice where a Land Rover owner can complain unethical activities to?

I'm pretty sure that's in violation of federal law and the mere fact of them telling you that is violation of the law.

15k is only a rotate, oil change, and pollen filter.

and we reset the maintenance light.

Seriously wtf are they smoking.

Just go to a volvo store and buy the same parts. its an 10 XC 60 3.2Litre engine.

Of course he could have quoted you a disco two by accident for a 60k service. Thats the only thing I could think of that would come close.

but if you want the same parts buy them from atlantic british and then buy 5w30 fully synthetic blend oil which goes for 7,500 miles for 8 quarts and you will be fine.

parts for the job are as follows

oil filter
oil plug oring
8 quarts of 5w30 synthetic blend good for 7,500
pollen filter
To reset the light just push the trip reset indicator at the same time press the key in. When the service light comes on let off the key and then hold the indicator until it flashes, press the indicator again and then hold it till it resets and do it for the mileage indicator till its reset.

I like Tom's idea - why not a Fed Ex delivered letter to the general counsel of LR, documenting problem and cite the law? They usually open what comes in Fed Ex.... it is the GC's job to keep the firm out of legal problems, and legal just might slap some sense into dealer operations (if that is possible).

Of course, independent dealers are known to make their own rules.

Thank you for your idea
I will be collecting documented facts to complain.
What is the address to "general counsel of LR?"

One has two very large stone tablets in the front yard, erected so they face the Court. Must be five or six feet high. Ten commandments on them. You can see it on Google maps.
