Default 1st Post---Ride Height Help

Hello Everyone. my name is Art. My wife had been in the market for a new Truck and the one she said she would never buy is the LR3. She loves the look of the RR but hated the boxed look of the LR3. Well , after I convinced her to drive one she called me and said this is the truck for her.

We have 2 kids, a 3 year old and an 8 month old. We travel heavy and we like the options the car offered including the DVD for the kids, Nav for us and a 3rd row for friends or family. The overall ride and handling of the car is great, not like a truck. The Stadiums seating is great as are the triple sun roofs, to bad only the 1st one opens. Anyway this is a great Truck and we both LOVE it however I have 1 question..... When my wife picked it up the dealer had the ride preset and I don't want the car at the medium height, I want it low. How do I adjust that setting. Every time I lower it the settings kick in and raise the car. Please help a Newbie to the Land Rover Community.

The air ride suspension is setup with 3 modes. The lowest setting is actuakky referred to as access height. It is designed for easier access to entering/exiting the vehicle or for getting an extra 2 inches of clearance height for those short parking garages. The lowest setting will automatically raise once the vehicle hits 8mph. You can lock the suspension at access height by holding the button down for 3 seconds. A chime will indicate the suspensn is locked. it will only stay locked until you hit about 25 - 28 mph.

The normal height mode is where your vehicle will spend the majority of the time. Once the vehicle hits over 100 mph for a few secondsthe suspenson will lower by about 3/4 of an inch. It will raise again once you drop below 80 or 85.

Lastly, off road height. This will auto lower once you hit about 35 mph.

Go read the owners manuak for all the details. Driving at access height isn't going to be that great of an experience. You lose 2" of suspension travel and it will feel quite stiff.

If you really bug the dealer, or an independent land rover shop equipped with say an autologic computer, the ride height can be permanently raised or lowered. You run the risk however of a. eating your tires alive, even after an alignment, there just isn't that much adjustment for camber in the wheel knuckle camber bolts, b. puttting unengineered and unitended stress on your suspension bushings. B might not be a problem, but i raised mine 2.5 inches and am on the second set of bushings all the way around. It seemed once they were at the new angle, they wore out pretty quickly. I replaced them and within 20,000 miles i was putting new top a arms on in the rear and a new top a arm on the right front. could have been my driving though.

If you really want to lower the ride generally speaking, you can do a lowering kit. Contact Range Rover Lowering Kits and Lowering Links I believe they're active on a few forums, particularly mention 1" lowering kits. This would give you safe daily operation while maintaining a realistic ride, etc.

I can't imagine riding at access height would be pleasant. I have to go to access mode to enter the parking garage at work, and it is a very bouncy ride at lock.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the insight. I own a BMW M5 and I have 3 different adjustments for my ride. Hard, soft and normal. I thought the LR3 was adjustable like my M5.

One other annoyance I found is that I cannot input an address into the Nav while the car is in movement. Is there any way to get past that?
