Default 2005 LR3 EAS compressor dryer cap separated

So there I was, sitting at the stop sign when I heard a pop from the left rear and the air suspension fault light came on followed by normal ride height only. I stepped out to take a look, ride height was normal. So I jumped back in and went home. I figured it was something with the pump or a lin since the ride height was ok. I pulled the compressor cover and it is full of the beads from the dryer. In doing research I have discovered that they do not sell it new OEM but there are repair and rebuild kits. I have not pulled the compressor out yet since I need to pick up the kids later. I have pulled the fuses to disable the compressor and auto leveling. Let’s home for no leaks.

So here are the questions
Is it possible to rebuild the dryer with the rebuild kit if the screws are striped out? I have found a kit. That has a new cam and guts.

Air Suspension Compressor Dryer Repair Kit for Land Rover Range Rover Sport | eBay

Or should I just order the one form china

Air Compressor Drier VUB504700 for Land Rover Range Rover Sport 05 13 | eBay

lucky 8 stated that they have just the repair kit with out the cap and they can overnight it to me.

what do you guys think?

Is just the cap broken? There is a metal replacement cap to fix this:

Default going to china

i just got a better look at it. the bottom seam on the dryer is what split. so it looks like i will be hunting down a new one or buying a compressor.

Sounded like the holes in the dryer body are stripped out. I have a couple spares - you can too. Bring a few starbucks coffees to the local dealer service advisor and see if s/he can give you a "faulty" compressor from a recent repair job. Most dealer swap a couple a week and just tossed them away.

Since I have RS sliders and a few spares now, Im invested in Hitachi's for a while. I might pickup one of those end caps if they ship to the US. Thanks for the link.

@morris: I've successfully fitted the AMK with RS Sliders. I'd say it's 10% noisier than the Hitachi; no cutting to the sliders.

@Cajun81 - I would send you a dryer (I can always get more). .

@houm_wa - I saw that you sorted out the RS slider / AMK issues. Well done! Since I fixed my slow leak, the Hitatchi seems to be working great. Im Probably due for a new set of beads this fall after this VERY wet offloading season. Given that I have a spare hitatchi now too, I think Im set with them for a while.

Good deal. When you're ready to make the jump hit me up and I'll tell you what I had done to make it fit.

Default update 2

last night i pulled the old dryer off and the blown open where the seam is. So i pulled it the rest of the way off, cleaned up the surface and epoxied it back together. it was a good plan in theory but it did not work out so well. i think i scared the $hit out of my neighbors when the bottom cap blew off this time.

so i will be waiting for the one i ordered form royal land rover in Tucson shows up. they shipped it yesterday. i opted for 2 day air for $25 over 1 day for $65.

morrisdl i will PM you my address let me know what shipping is and we can work out t he details. i will get a new cap and rebuild kit and set it on the shelf for a replacement.
