Default Apparently my A/C doesn't work...

Hey all! 2008 LR3. Milwaukee, USA. 88K miles.

It's starting to get warm here in Wisconsin and I tried using my A/C for the first time since buying the car over the winter. No matter what I tried, there were hints of some cooler air, but certainly not COLD A/C air. Looks like I need a recharge of sorts. Is this common for Rovers?

Anyone know what I should expect to pay at my local dealer? Or is this an easy type fix that should be done at any Midas-type store, or a local foreign car specialist?

Thanks!

It is not unusual if it is low on freon to run. Hopefully they can at least check the pressure and see if it is low. If that does not solve the problem... it will be hard to say.. Does the AC compressor engage?

Is this a use thing? I have had the LR3 for damn near 10 years and I've had nary an issue with the A/C at all...aside from whining and farting. I know I don't use it much...is that the explanation here?

Default recharge it every spring

I would not say I have not had any real problems with the HVAC system other than "noises", however every spring, I have the AC system recharged.

The dealer acts like it was down and charges me for a pound of C134A.

The work order usually says something like "500 grams present so recharged to 900 grams." I also get them to add that UV dye to help find leaks. The general feeling is that there are no real leaks present, the system just needs topping up. Go figure; I pay and stay cool for the two weeks of summer we normally have here.

It is just that I tend to almost die if the outside air temperature goes above 70F (21C).

I have a feeling this must be cold related, 10 year old vehicle, never taken any freon, checked once. Whine of course, fart cured for 400 bucks.. Just need to replace the A/C pump to cure the whining. My A/C has barely been shut off in 150k miles.

The Lexus, (Toyota) did have low freon this spring.

It is best to have it checked when the temperature is warm above 70 say..

How much does the A/C Pump cost??? I don't use it much but when I do the whine annoys me. I don't care about the farting...I almost like it. It's like a validation that I shut it off.

Sounds like about $1200 installed, to me. I guess it doesn't bug me THAT much!

Couldn't get my local dealer to respond to me so I went to a local place called Matt's Foreign Car Service in Milwaukee. They recharged the AC, added freon, added dye to detect future leaks, and the AC is now blowing ice cold. $158.
