Better double that you will spend that on Beer alone. And don't forget to add enough to the budget to afford a Land Rover Tissue Holder to dry all your tears! Welcome to the world of LR ownership.

I'd say cut it in half if you are starting out with a well-maintained LR3. If there are a bunch of repairs to make up front then it will skew the average. Also, obviously, the miles driven per year is a factor.

Default link to front differential breather replacement

The link to the album below contains 9 files related to replacement of the front differential breather with the newer Goretex part.

It is one of the few clean hands, stand up, under 25 dollar fixes, that one can do.

It will save you hundreds of on your back, underneath, doing unfun knuckle busting stuff; and you still have to change out the breather or you will be at it again; but at least you will have more experience at redoing the front diff.

Default also Land Rover parts

A Land Rover dealer parts department can be a pretty good source of LR parts as well - not online, and kind of an old fashioned concept but it does work.

Most times, the part is not in stock, (certainly not the Gore vent), so the dealer parts department has to contact Caterpillar and a couple of weeks later, Cat will deliver the part to the dealership and you can pick it up there.

With the smaller dealers who still have a parts guy who know what a Land Rover is, you can often pick up some good repair info in conversation with the parts person.

My nearest Land Rover dealer is almost five hours away. That's why I need online.

Default Local LR dealer may not be so local.

I am fortunate, I do have a good LR dealer here in the village and another about 200 miles to the south. East and West are not so good, maybe 400 and 800 miles or so.

North is a real problem - Iceland, per below is the closest. We do have twice a week direct flights to Reykjavik but that makes the "postage" a bit expensive.

The link below has some good pictures of Iceland and LR. I might add that you may recognize some of the background from Land Rover winter ads that ran last year on TV.
