Default Surging

I have a problem with surging at idle and low speeds in my TDV6 MY05. The local dealer advised me that this was due to faulty EGR valves and proceeded to replace them at considerable expense ($1200 each). I still have the problem. Anyone else experienced this problem? Could it be fixed?

I had the same problem in my '05 V8 SE. I read somewhere that the air intake valve could stick with build-up. I opened up the air intake and carefully wiped out all build-up. That fixed my problem. Total time was about 30 minutes, so it may be worth a shot.

After 11 days in the dealers, the replacement of 2 x EGR Valves and an overhaul of the front diff, the dealer finally found the gear box and gave it a flush with new oil. This did not work at first so they flushed again and replaced the filter. This was not initially a total fix and the dealer gave up and refunded all my payments. After 500 km the surging has now gradually disappeared and it appears that replacing the oil and flushing the gearbox has fixed the problem. I have a local mechanic who has just moved to Australia from UK where he was trained at the Landrover factory and specialises in gearboxes. He says this is a common problem and that gearboxes are NOT SEALED FOR LIFE and the factory, internally, recommends gearbox oil replacement every 50,000 miles/80,000 km. Makes sense.

I also checked the air intake valve but it was clear and working well.
