Default EBC Brake Pads for my 2010 LR4

I bought a nice set of EBC GD Sport rotors for my LR4 and need to get hold of a full set of EBC pads. I researched the EBC catalog and noticed there are weighted and non-weighted pads for both EBC Yellows and the new EBC Extra Duty Orange Pads.

My question is what does the more expensive weighted pads give, and can or should I just buy the non-weighted pads? Also, only appears the fronts give the choice of weighted or non-weighted. Rear pads are only non-weighted.

Here are the listed catalog part numbers I'm looking into:

EBC Yellow 7000

Front

DP42060R non-weighted

DP42123R with weights

Rear

DP41542R

EBC Extra Duty Orange

Front

ED92060 Non-weighted

ED92123 with weights

Rear

ED91542

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

They are to reduce noise. Brake noise comes from very high frequency vibrations when the brakes are applied. There have been many ways to deal with this vibration, to include: Heavy springs, special grease, adhering the pad to the caliper and also counterweights. Counterweights add mass and reduces the pads ability to move so quickly, lowering its frequency. You will find similar weights on exhaust systems to reduce "drone" noises.

So if you could care less about noise, the un-weighted pads will likely cost less and reduce unsprung weight. If you want to maintain a certain level of quiet, get the weighted.

Do not buy the Yellow, they are too hard and have a lots of noise to them.
Go with EBC Green Box - DP62060
Mine came with weights (helps wit Noise)

I put green on my LR3 and the fronts wore out in less than 10k miles with drilled and slotted rotors.

Stopped great, but didn't last.
