Default Trailer hitch cover

I can get along with the hitch lump, having to ram it upward and then fiddling the release to get it out again. What is driving me starkers is the damm plastic cover. The screws are totally underneath the bumper, where if you don't lay on your back you can't see to get a tool into the slots. The slots are too big for a screwdriver and start to deform, because you just can't get them to turn and release; particularly while you're standing on your head to see them. They couldn't have put the tab underneath and the screws in the vertical bumper; oh no, that would have ruined the "appearance"!!! Does anybody have a way to release that cover plate in some better way then those damm plastic screws???
