Wondering what CB you guys use and what antenna you have it paired with? I am looking to put a system in my rig and I can't really blow a load of money as i need other parts first. just need something to get me thru a day of wheeling

I dont know if you checked my setup out saterday but I have a magnum radio with a monkey made antenna............I gotta say its not the cheapest of radio setups but itll definatly get out and talk to someone. If your looking for something just for wheeling I would get a Cobra 19 DX, there a nice compact unit, with a spring loaded base metal antenna, just my opinion but fiberglass antennas tend to break to easy

Any Cobra or Uniden radio is a good choice, I have ran both at one point or another when I drove truck with dual Firestix.
But like LongHaul said, you want a whip antenna or a really short magnet mount for the roof.
Brian i actually didnt get a good look at your truck on sat. i wanted too check out your rock sliders as well.. i was looking at a uniden unit and wanted to get firestix mounted to the rear bumper. i heard someone saying its useless to get dual if they are both mounted on the rear rather get one on the front and one on the rear. opinions?

Yeah I wouldnt bother with running 2 antennas it really doesnt help out that much more......I actually was running 2 on my 18 wheeler and it made my reception worse with 2 so I took the one off (now its on the disco). If you do put your antenna on the bumper make sure it has a good ground, some antennas do have a ground wire on them if your putting them on your bumperettes.

For inexpensive, compact radio the Uniden 510 or 520 are the way to go, IMO. I also like to have a radio with weather bands in an off road vehicle. The places I generally wheel it's really nice to be able to keep up to date on the weather conditions as they change. The Cobra 19 is a piece of junk. Midland 1001z is another compact radio that I would run before the Cobra 19. The Midland is available with weather scan also.
As for antenna, spend some money and get a Wilson 1000 or 5000 roof mount. The antenna is more important than the radio. You can run an inexpensive radio with a good antenna such as the Wilson with good results.
I ran a highly tweaked Uniden 78Elite with a 102" stainless whip on the rear bumper. It did a great job but definitely wasn't inexpensive and the antenna tended to whip around like crazy on rough trails.
