Question Mod Inquiry for 04 D2

Have a few modifications in mind for an 2004 Discovery SE. Let me know what you think, and certainly if you've performed any of these mods on your Rover.

1.) Rear Taillights: The early D2 models have a more attractive rear taillight style and a better color scheme (red and white) versus the ugly red and orange scheme used on the late D2 models. So I'm thinking about the possibility of doing a swap out. Anyone know if its possible? Will early D2 rear taillights fit in the late D2 models?

Early D2 rear taillight design: Love it

Late D2 rear taillight design. Hate it. The black border is alright but nothing else about this design appeals to me.

2.) Rearview mirror camera ideal for parking maneuvers: As many fellow Discovery owners may know, parking these rigs can be a royal PIA, especially if you parallel park! Grant these rigs are not very long but the visibility in the rear is limited. Most new vehicles come with some sort of rear camera setup to assist in several parking maneuvers, its time my Discovery got one to! I'm not looking to spend a grand on a fancy setup, just looking for something within a reasonable budget that wont kill my battery.

A fine example of a rearview camera

But this would be nice to

3.) "# miles until empty": Title says it all, I'm also looking for some sort of gauge or small electrical computer that monitors fuel usage and gives me close to an exact estimate of how many miles until empty. Very useful on long trips, or when the stock fuel gauge itself fails to measure correctly.

More ideas soon. Let me know what you guys think and if you've performed any of these mods before.

i have all of you solutions.

1: yes you can. in fact I will trade you my 99 D2 tail lights in good working condition with no cracks, straight up for you 03/04 style. i like yours better!

2: there was a post yesterday that linked to a mod that someone put a big ole screen in their dash just where those are mounted in their D2. personally i would go with the one in the mirror for less headaches.

3: i use a scanguage II. you let it know when you fill up and how much per gallon and it tells you everything else. price per mile to drive, mpg, CEL codes, gallons to empty, MPH, water temp, it's pretty neat.

let me know if you're interested in trading tail lights.

Thanks for your input, I'll look into the aforementioned parts you suggested. Yes I'm interested in trading my 04 style rear taillights for your 2000 style rear taillights, however it will be about a month or so before I can commit to the trade. So if your willing to reserve your lights, I'll hold you to the deal when the time comes

I'm located in the central NH area, close to the VT border, and I had no idea that an existing Land Rover club was so close by! I'll definitely be joining the NELRC! Thanks for the resource feed

By the picture, there is a difference in the tail light lens screw location. I don't think they are interchangiable. That being said there were 2 different lens on the 99 thru 02 D2's which could be switched.

I haven't tried this yet, but I think you can get the trip computer functions pretty easily if you have an Ipod Touch or IPhone. It idea is to get a Bluetooth OBD2 connector and an Iphone app. Check it out and let us know if you work find something that works.

Default More parts needed

You're going to need the lower bumper mounted lights also to make the change from '03-'04 lights to '99-'02 as the turn signal is in the bumper. You also need to move some wiring from the upper light harness to the lower section and vice versa for the back up lights.
