Default New here from Cincy

Hello all! My name is Josh I live in Cincinnati Ohio. I just bought my first land rover a 04 disco II SE. I love this vehicle it is so clean and nice. I also own a 03 lincoln ls sport and a cammed up 01 trans am ws6 for my fast toy. So far I cannot complain about anything with this land rover other than the loud ticking noise the egine started to create and the rough low idle of the engine. Still runs great however. After reading a lot about the ticking I just decided that I will install an oil pressure gauge to monitor oil pressure and just live with the tick. The land rover has 85,000 miles on it. I will post pictures soon.

Welcome. You might want to review the posts on ticking and SAI, there have been some lately about that, and stopping the tick. Also download the free set of factory shop manuals, called the RAVE, in my signature. The technical section of the D1 part of the forum has lots of things that apply to both D1 and D2, for new2u trucks, high miles trucks, etc.

Keep Mark 1 eyeball on the temp guage, it can't go up beyond 10:00 without causing a burning sensation on your butt where your wallet just smoked...

Also, check out the propshaft rebuild write up in the tech section, when (not if) your prop shaft goes, it tries to take the tranny with it.

Look at my post about my oil pressure problems. I also installed a gauge. Really simple to do! Especially when you get the adapter for your oil filter.
Oil pump/timing chain overhaul/ aftermarket gauge instal
Is the tick upper or lower? If its upper, start with oil psi... Then go to lifters, rocker shafts and camshaft. Make sure you don't go cheap and do just the lifters and rocker shafts and no cam. That's essential. As far as lower engine: rod bearings? Main bearings? What about a slipped liner? Dose it make it all the time when its warm? If so take a video of the tick so we can hear it and help you identify it. HOWEVER rover guys have taken every single moving piece out of these engines, looked at them, replaced them with new, started it up and still have had a tick....
welcome to land rovers!
