You lucky dawg! Please be sure to download a copy of the RAVE, which should have tech manuals for it. And be sure to post comments on what you eventually had to do for shipping, insurance, transit time, port of entry inspection, bribes to local officials, etc.

I wish I knew enough to feel lucky 8-).
All I know is LR's always brought out some primal response from me.

As it turns out, the previous owners had their info confused.
I own a 1997 Discovery, not a 1990.
w/c was a relief, as apparently 1994 is the cutoff for importing a Disco.

At this stage, I'd be happy to just get it stateside (NJ) and have a couple years. Still runs good, just needs minor repairs and an AC installed.

hope this works out...

Is it Right hand drive or Left hand drive? If it was a 1990 you could just go to a bone yard and find a vin that needs a new home... *cough cough* TDI defenders pre1986....

its left-hand drive, and manual transmission.
I've ridden it once, and everything felt smooth and the heater rocks.

The last two importers I've contacted don't seem all that excited to get the business - w/c makes me think its not worth the hassle for them.
Odd, since I figure to put in a a few grand on sprucing up the car,
for that mythical looong road trip coming up with my buddy,
a la Sideways...8-)

meanwhile, there's all these Defenders on ebay for like a gazillion dollars,
not to mention under-10,000 Discoveries all loaded up.
Is it normal to know not much about vehicles but to snub everything (BMWs, Mercedes Benz, anything Range Rover , with apologies) for a Discovery or Defender? as in, that's the only vehicle I have ever thought of buying, ever?

Default Definitely Not a Noob

well, sad news for me...
due to the seeming inadvisability of it all, but mostly due to related human factors with the good woman keeping the car for me in Germany,
I have given up the car for her to sell over there, and at a loss.

anyways, it was a gesture of help and friendship anyway in the first place.
hope any good karma falls my way, now that I'm seriously looking for a good roadtrip-worthy LR, Stateside this time.
thanks all - its been real 8-)
