Default Expedition ideas

I am pondering what modifications I can make to my rig to make it a better expedition-type vehicle. By this I mean something I can take the family on long off-road trips with, No rock crawling or other such insanity. Just a good all around trail rig. Off course I need a lift and some better tires (i'm thinking something along the lines of a BFG Mud Terrain) Some jerry-cans, thins like that. I was looking for some ideas on what else I might need/want. Also, if anyone else has a rig they've set up for this type of wheeling, any input would be great. As always, pics and links make things more interesting.

lift kit is a bad idea because you won't be doing any rock crawling. You will always need protection though. Jerry cans, expedition rack. some lights for night time off roading. A cool box, extra battery, inverter, satelite phone. Two spare tires.

Oh and two sets of keys always.

you never know when you lose one.

Agree on not really needing the lift kit, but you might want some HD springs and shocks to compensate for the extra weight of gear, kids, extra batteries, extra fuel, etc.

-Roof Rack
-Extra Spare Tire (or compressor and patch kit)
-Jerry Cans
-Off Road Lights
-Lots of tie-down straps

I basically just copied and pasted my wish list....

I have BFG A/T's on my FJ40 and they are nice and quiet on-road, great off road, and I just love the look. If you're going to be doing a fair amount of highway driving to your destination, the M/T's might be a little too knobby.

I semi-agree about the lift. While I don't want to do any rock crawling, having 2" more clearance, imo, would not be a bad thing. I'm also thinking about building some kind of trailer, something were I can carry some more jerry cans and maybe one of those tents. This is still just a wish list but, the ideas you guys are throwing out are great. Most of them have made my list already.

i don't think you need a trailer or an xtreme lift. u will need cash for this project tough. $1100 tyres, $650 suspension (OME 2inch from Lucky8), $1000 roof rack (roverracks), $650 aromour, $200 GPS....
