Default How to rid the smell of gas

Hello all!

On my way to school today a 5 gallon gas can fell over and leaked a half gallon of gas. I've had the cargo door open all day and the window craked, but the smell is this present. Is there any way to rid the smell of fuel or is my only open time?

Thanks Collin!

You will need to remove the carpet and the under pads, cleaning them both wand leaving them out in the sun for a few day, even then there will be some smell left for awhile.

try some frebreeze first. literally soak the carpets and the pad.

but you can pull the carpet separate from the pad on a d1 and then use a fan to dry it out and then the frebreeze.

This happened to a friend of mine several years ago with his Suburban, they had to remove the seats and carpet and all the insulation and replace it all.
The insurance company wanted to total it but he wouldn't let them.
But he spilled 5 gal of has not half a gal.

Thank for all the help! I'm going to try some frebreeze and hope for the best... If worst comes to worst I'll strip the carpet and padding, let it air out...

5 gallons??? god that must have sucked, I would be sick to my stomach not because of the smell, but because of the money wasted!

You ask for help, and 6 days later you haven't done what was suggested, don't be surprised when your gas smell doesn't go away. By now the gas smell is soaked in and dried and you won't get it out of the pads much less the carpet.
Next time don't wait for it to go away on it's own cause it doesn't happen that way.

Now you get to use a nose clip or find yourself an allergy so smells wont bother you ever again.
