this thing is killing me, it stalls after running for a little while. mainly at stops and wont crank till cool.heres what i have replaced. coil,distributer,plugs and wires,fuel pump,computer,fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter,fuel temp sensor,coolant temp sensor,idol control valve. i dont know what else to try,any ideas?
A few different things come to mind.. Please bear w/me im going from memory 25 yrs ago..
Model Year 1989 may not have the first option
At the firewall on the passenger side (about the same height as the valve cover there
is a battery post where your b+ wires bolt to it is insulated with plastic and goes to the inside electrics of your vehicle. It supplys power to every . It could be loose or melted. be careful here it's live battery and if it shorts to ground... well I don't think I need to say more..
Under the passenger front seat there is a fuse block with 4 fuses and a seprate one with 2. IIRC the one with 2 fuses has the fuel/and or ignition circuit. make sure the fuses and connections are clean and the connectors are properly latched into the fuse holder a backed out connector can cause an intermittant running problem.
There are also 2 metal relays, one in a blue holder and one in a black holder. These are your fuel pump (blue) and you main (black) relays. You could check conncetions there and/or replace them.
In the lower L/F "A" pillar under the pillar trim there is a connector that supplies power to the fuel pump that can corrode or burn causing an intermittant running problem.
In the R/S rear headliner there is a buffer. looks like a big resistor with 2 black connectors. Disconnect that and plug the 2 ends of the harness together.
Thats all I've got. Hope one of these suggestions will help solve your problem
