Default '94 LWB in Houston in need of a transmission

I have a '94 LWB w/230K on the clock. Motor is strong but the transmission will only operate in Reverse. The gear selector will go into the forward gears but the transmission will not engage. I have tried to follow a couple threads on other boards, but couldn't make sense of what might be the problem (an actuator or relay...). If I need to replace the tranny, will a Disco Series I transmission bolt right up? If there is a thread out there on this, I couldn't fine it...
thanks for yr help!
cheers,
Jeff

Default

A 94-95 transmission will mount right up without a problem. The 96-99 disco uses a slightly different transmission. I'll bet it would mate up fine, but rover parts lists it as a separate part. It sounds like your range is having a transmission seal problem. Might want to check out this site: http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdet.../transeal.html

Default change fluid?

Did you try changing the fluid? Had similar problem on my 93 and changing the fluid/filter brought back the forward gears and then I lost reverse. had water in trans -- chocolate milk fluid. Also try adding seafoam and a cap full of brake fluid. we drove it another year before getting a new trans...

got a 1995 disco tranny. what a nice change -- the gearing and shifting were greatly improved over the 1993.
