Default BMW engine vs Jaguar engine

I am a long time owner of a 2000 discovery with the 4.0 rover engine. I am currently looking at purchase a used Range Rover and was wondering which are more reliable. The 03-05 with the BMW engines or the newer 06-present with the Jaguar engines, thanks.

I would take the Jag engine hands down. Much better motor with less issues overall

That is what I thought. I have also heard that they have less electrical problems.

I had a 2005 LR3, with the Jag V8. It was a great car. I sold it after EAS issues, but aside from that I had to get a new Thermostat, it was a easy fix, took me 10min, and the only reason I knew was it was a failsafe that took me from 20mpg to 12mpg highway.

The afterthought is that my 2003 RR did fine as well. Both cars had over 150k on them before I relieved them of duty.

What you also have to consider is that there is extensive support for the Jag-engined L322 but very little for the BMW ones.

I mean in regards to the diagnostic & electrical side of things. The BMW-powered L322 is kind of an orphan.

Jaguar fixed most of its issues before it got put into the Land Rover. BMW never fixed the M62 issues, they were crap till the day they died. I would never recommend to anybody to get a Rover or even a BMW with the M62 motor.
